Tips for Plymouth County Record Requests

Good requests get faster results. Include the full name of the person involved, the date of the incident, and the location if you have it. A case number speeds things up more than anything else. If you don't have one, give as many details as you can so the clerk can narrow the search.

If an agency denies your request, you have the right to appeal. Under M.G.L. Chapter 66, Section 10A, file a petition with the Supervisor of Records. They review the denial within 10 business days and issue a written decision. If you still get turned down, you can go to Superior Court. The court can order the release of the records and may award attorney fees if you win. This appeals process was strengthened by the 2016 public records reform.
